Ripon

 

The city of Ripon is renowned for its exquisite architecture, twisting cobbled streets from the town square and its stunning cathedral. Ripon also benefits from being wonderfully located in the heart of the countryside. Ripon offers a perfect mixture of city and country living.

There are many places to visit in the lovely city of Ripon, including Ripon Cathedral, which is only a short walk from the apartment. The Cathedral dominates the Ripon skyline and represents a rich history going back almost fourteen centuries. Adding to the atmospheric centre is the famous hornblower, who can be seen blowing his horn at each of the four corners of the Obelisk in Market Place at 9pm each night. This ancient ceremony commemorates the time in the Middle Ages when Ripon's first citizen was responsible for crime prevention. The city offers fantastic pubs, restaurants and cafes, in delightful surroundings.

York

 

Also near Ripon is the historic city of York. Explore the architecture, visit the Shambles or the many historic sites of this walled city. One of York's many tourist attractions is its Minster, this Gothic cathedral is truely a magnificent site and memorable attraction. Also in York are the National Railway Museum and Yorkshire Museum, which offer an interactive and visual experience for all ages.

Harrogate

 

Within ten miles south of Ripon is Harrogate. Places to visit in and around Harrogate include Ripley Castle and gardens, this historic attraction has beautiful surroundings and is open to the public all year round. Harrogate also boasts the UKs biggest and most prestigious independent gardening event, the Harrogate Flower Show, which takes place each autumn and spring.

Nidderdale

Near Ripon is Nidderdale, an area of outsanding natural beauty. Famed for its rich tapestry of lush meadows, stunning moorland countryside and river scenery. Attractions of the area include How Stean Gorge Outdoor Centre. This outdoor experience by a spectacular limestone gorge offers the chance to explore winding walkways, caves and tunnels. It also boasts the Via Ferreta course for those feeling adventurous. This network of beams, ladders and cables is a must for those wanting an adrenaline packed outdoor experience. Other attractions in the area include Nidderdale Museum in Pately Bridge, and Stumpcross Caverns, one of Britains premier show caves.

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal 

 

Set amongst the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside  Fountains Abbey is one of the best preserved Cistercian ruins in the country. It truly presents a fantastic and unique day for all the family. It can also be a great walk for the dogs! Visit the National Trust website for more information

Brimham Rocks

 

Impressive rock formations set amongst Brimham Moor, North Yorkshire. With some of the giant rock formations standing at a staggering 30 feet tall. This part of the country side is truly a unique piece of nature and science. Over time the rocks have been sculptured by wind, rain and ice forming the creative shapes seen today. Visit the National Trust website for more information.

Sutton Bank

​

If you are looking to get up high, 140 metres to be exact, and look at the rolling hills and beautiful countryside, this is you place! An opportunity to take breath taking images that are sure to make your friends jealous.
